Data from LaingBuisson’s 2019 Childcare Report suggests that the independent Children’s Services industry – which includes Residential Care and Specialist Education – comprises more than 130,000 looked after children in a Specialist Education environment, and more than 8,180 children in a Residential Care setting. Within the Fostering space, it is estimated to comprise more than 51,850 Fostered children, as well as nearly 4,700 are registered for Adoption. The independent Nurseries sector generates an estimated £4.7bn, with more than 703,000 children receiving childcare and daytime care – representing an increase of 2.5% in the last two years.
